Hackensack, NJ – The Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine’s dean has been named Jeffrey Boscamp, M.D. Additionally, he will be the dean of the school of medicine and occupy the prestigious Robert C. and Laura C. Garrett Endowed Chair.
Since Dr. Bonita Stanton, his immediate predecessor, passed away unexpectedly in January of last year, Dr. Boscamp has served as the School’s temporary dean. Boscamp had previously served as the school’s vice dean.
“Dr. Boscamp has performed terrifically in the interim role, and he’s proven to be a visionary educator,” said Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, chief executive officer, Hackensack Meridian Health. “We are excited to see how he leads the school to an ever-brighter future.”
“Jeff Boscamp has done a great job in stepping in and keeping this medical school moving forward,” said John “Skip” Williams, M.D., chairman of the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine’s Board of Governors. “He took the reins almost a year ago, and has guided the School with an exceptional set of skills and values.”
Following a nationwide competitive search, Dr. Boscamp was chosen from a pool of qualified candidates.
Since 1987, Dr. Boscamp has served as a clinician and executive at what is now Hackensack Meridian Health. Since the idea of beginning a new medical school was initially considered more than ten years ago, Dr. Boscamp has played a crucial role in the development of the School. He served as co-chair of the search committee that found the school’s first dean, Dean Stanton.
He has served as the co-director of Immunity, Infection, and Cancer, a major first-year fundamental science course, at the School of Medicine (I2C). When COVID-19 overran the clinical services of HMH in March 2020, Dr. Boscamp chose eight medical students to be embedded in these clinical services to conduct new epidemiological research on the disease’s manifestations and therapies. The students generated 70 papers in just six weeks, and Academic Medicine published a description of this creative “pop-up” course. He also instructs a very well-liked course on wine appreciation (with a set curriculum and textbook).
He is a seasoned and well-respected leader at Hackensack University Medical Center and sits on the Academics Committee of the Hackensack Meridian Health Board of Trustees.
Dr. Boscamp previously held the Marvin I. Gottlieb Endowed Chair of Pediatrics at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital for 14 years before taking on these roles. He established the Steven Bader Immunological Institute and the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Hackensack University Medical Center, speaks frequently at continuing medical education events, and has won numerous teaching honors.
Dr. Boscamp received his education at New York Medical College and Williams College. He worked as a resident in internal medicine at Greenwich Hospital, Yale University School of Medicine, and pediatrics at Babies Hospital-Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Infectious diseases in adults and children were the focus of his fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.
Dr. Boscamp served on the executive committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics and as chairman of the NJ chapter’s committee on infectious diseases. He joined the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund Commission after being chosen by the Governor. In addition to being a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Infectious Diseases Society of New Jersey, and the American Society for Microbiology, he is a fellow of the AAP and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society. In addition to being a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and holding board certification in pediatric infectious diseases, Dr. Boscamp has won various professional honors for his clinical and teaching abilities.
Dr. Boscamp will serve as the medical school’s second dean. The medical school’s first students were admitted in 2018 and its first physicians graduated in 2021. Dr. Stanton was the institution’s first dean from 2016 until her death in January 2022.

Rather, basic science content will be presented in its clinical context with clear medical relevance. We will utilize the best components of different evidence-based teaching methods, and structure our foundational curriculum explicitly to give students what they need to thrive in the modern, technically demanding, clinical setting.
The Human Dimension:
Central to the curriculum will be a thread called the Human Dimension. Through immersive and longitudinal experiences, students will come to understand the role of community and context in health and wellbeing, as well as the role of the physician in all elements that contribute to promoting health and preventing disease.
About Jeffrey Boscamp, MD:
Dr. Boscamp serves Hackensack Meridian Health as co-chief academic officer and senior vice president of Medical School Development and Integration. As co-CAO, Dr. Boscamp develops, promotes and organizes programs at Hackensack Meridian Health to promote lifelong learning across the continuum of undergraduate medical education, graduate medical education and continuing medical education.
Dr. Boscamp also serves as professor of Pediatrics at the School. A longstanding and highly-regarded leader at Hackensack University Medical Center, he also serves as a member of the Hackensack Meridian Health Board of Trustees Academics Committee.
Prior to these positions, Dr. Boscamp held the Marvin I. Gottlieb, M.D., Ph.D., Endowed Chair of Pediatrics at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital for 14 years. He founded the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the Steven Bader Immunological Institute at Hackensack University Medical Center, is a frequent continuing medical education speaker and has received numerous teaching awards.
In his positions as Vice Dean, co-CAO and senior vice president of Medical School Development and Integration, Dr. Boscamp serves as a liaison between Hackensack Meridian Health and the School of Medicine to develop and coordinate undergraduate and graduate medical education programs across Hackensack Meridian Health. Dr. Boscamp partners in the design and development of educational policy and academic programs that create an interdisciplinary approach to teaching to identify, recruit and prepare students and residents as critical thinkers and problem solvers as they progress to the practice of medicine.
Dr. Boscamp graduated from Williams College and New York Medical College. He was a resident in pediatrics at Babies Hospital-Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and in internal medicine at Greenwich Hospital, Yale University School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric infectious diseases at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx.
In addition, Dr. Boscamp was Chairman of the NJ Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics, Committee on Infectious Diseases and a member of the executive committee of that organization. He was appointed by the Governor as a member of the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund Commission.
